The Battlefords group picked up their first share of the season on Sunday and Saskatoon will receive theirs on Wednesday.
Items for this first share include:
Carrots (from storage)
For those of you who are not accustomed to orach, it is a wonderful spring green that can be used as you would spinach. We’ve mostly been eating ours as salad so far, but it is also lovely cooked with eggs, in soups, etc.
As for asparagus, there are so many ways it can be used to celebrate spring! One of our favourite recipes is sesame asparagus:
1 pound asparagus
1 Tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
1 Tbsp white vinegar
1 Tbsp rice vinegar
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp honey
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
Lightly steam the asparagus. While it is cooking, toast the sesame seeds and combine the liquid ingredients. Toss together and enjoy, either warm or chilled.
